STEFFEN SHARIKOV

Steffen Sharikov, he loves people.

People are made to inspire, create and tell stories and he believes that one of the best ways to tell stories is through photography.

And if he is on set, you’ll find him making the breakfast burritos, writing poetry, being a wanna be dog owner, recording music with the Sharikov, and creating a change in the Russian speaking countries with his non-profit organization.

Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream.

My name is Steffen Sharikov and I love people.

People are made to inspire, create and tell stories and I believe that one of the best ways to tell stories is through photography.

And if I’m on set, you’ll find me making the breakfast burritos, writing poetry, being a wanna be dog owner, recording music with the Sharikov, and creating a change in the Russian speaking countries with my non-profit organization.

What makes you choose this profession?

Sometimes it takes something as simple as your sister wanting you to take her Instagram photos to make you realize what you are passionate about. When more people started reaching out for photoshoots, I realized I should learn more about photography.

I chose photography as a profession because I love what I do and it helps that I’m good at it.

What is your favorite camera? Why?

Although I shoot a lot of 35mm film, my favorite digital camera is my Sony A7Riii. The mirrorless sensor is spectacular!

Where your inspiration comes from?

One of my favorite ways to get inspired is to observe life around me. Inspiration is a funny thing. You can get inspired from the simplest things like opening your refrigerator or feeling the air on your face or seeing a quirky smile of a stranger. And all of a sudden, it hits you.

When I catch an idea, I let it sit for a while. Inspiration can create a snowball effect where the initial thought grows into an even better idea.

Some ideas aren’t meant to be the final result. Sometimes, they’re meant to be a stepping stone to an even better idea.

What is the most important thing for creating new work?

No creative wants to do the same things every day every time. I believe that the best work is created when everyone involved is on the same page with the idea for the shoot from the start and everyone is willing to try new things as we go.

I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to work with people who have been invested into my shoot ideas as much as I have been. That’s where the magic is at.
