Visionaries, Sceptics and Transformative

Sourodeep Bhattacharjee and Debarati Bhattacharjee are a passion driven photographer and fashion designer couple who draws inspiration from nature, human emotions, fantasy and myths.

The wondrous nature with all her colors and forms inspires awe in them. The light of the sun not only nurtures each cell of their body but their imagination alongside and birth unique concepts in which human beings and other living entities can be photographed.

They believe in capturing moods and moments and transform them into something magical that can last for eternity. Their philosophies and ideas align with those who believe that life can wither yet continue to live on through photographs.

The journey of a living being may be bound by time but their photographs grant them immortality and continue to tell their stories even after they are gone. They whole-heartedly believe that fashion and style are timeless and photographing them make them so much more accepted and appreciated by generations to come.

They opine that photography is not only about grabbing a camera and clicking photos, it's an art form and goes through several stages of creation, starting from conceptualizing to designing wardrobes and arranging lights, to selecting the talent who can embody the concept and the final step of delivering outstanding photos.

Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream.

We are photography enthusiasts who, in spite of having received formal education in other faculties, live, breathe and dream in technicolor. We do it out of sheer love of it and are childishly zealous about it.

What makes you choose this profession?

Our idea that the world is beautiful and though our eyes can't always look past its mundane outer layer, the lens of a camera can penetrate much deeper and mine out that hidden pristine allure and present it in front of the eyes of dubious and questioning minds.

Could you share how you expand your vision of art, fashion?

We never shut the windows of our minds and always try to imbibe from everything that is constantly happening around us. We observe and learn from the people around us and sometimes even plants and animals can leave unforgettable impressions on our ever receptive souls.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

We ardently follow the works of fellow photographers and browse through fashion magazines, renowned or otherwise, to keep ourselves updated about the trends of fashion. We also watch videos of collection launches by fashion houses and all these egg us on to do better than what we did the previous day.

If you have a superpower or talent, which one do you wish to have? Why?

If we were granted a superpower, we would try to make inclusivity widespread and redefine what is perceived as beautiful. We would make it in the hearts of all to see beauty in as many shapes, sizes, colors and orientations they come in and make them marvel equally at all the manifestations of beauty.

Do you have any problems with your profession? How did you solve it?

Challenges and hindrances facilitate our constant growth. We are never thrown off the rails if something or someone doesn't act the way we had imagined. We make do with whatever resources are available and often improvise. As for working with talents, we have been blessed till this point to have been associated with endearing and accommodating people who understand our ideas and positively contribute so that we can attain what we initially set out to do.

In modern society, lots of people want to be famous, influential. What do you think about it?

Being famous involves burning the midnight oil. It can only be achieved by hard work, honesty, faith in oneself and being consistent. We should never fail to follow our dreams and be ever prepared to go to great lengths in the pursuit of achieving what we desire for. It's rightly said that there are no shortcuts to success. And as far as influencing others go, we have to live by examples. Only if we eliminate frailty and follies from our lives, can we preach to others. We have to be our best versions if we wish others to be inspired by our creations.

What is your favorite camera? Why?

That would be PENTAX 645Z. We don’t own this but hope to be able to afford it at some point. The pristine quality of images provided by its medium format sensor is breathtaking.

How do you prepare your new shoot?

It almost always starts with some doodles drawn on our ipad followed by conversations and fun arguments on the concept that lasts for weeks sometimes. Debating to fine tune the materialization of the concept from virtual paper to flesh and blood is the fun part of any project. It helps us tremendously to get test shots with the same model several times before the shoot so we can plan ahead for contingencies.
