Robin Josefine Mather is a 21 year old body positive model and Art student living in Dundee, Scotland. Originally Born in Germany she moved to the uk in 2015, and started modelling in 2019 for a body positive photoshoot for a local brand, and she fell in love with the confidence modeling was giving her. 

Since replying to an ad on Instagram for the content creating agency “Kreativedon”, robin has built up her experience by working with many Dundee brands and overall collaborating with photographers from all over Scotland. Robin's goal is to make anyone feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, and reminds us that we define our own beauty standards.

Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream.

I may seem confident and like I have everything together, but I’ve had my struggles. I immigrated to a new country with my family, was kicked out at 16, homeless twice in the last 5 years, had some toxic relationships, have been struggling with anxiety, depression and trauma.  No matter what, I remind myself to not look back, and try and shape my life the way I want it to be. Some days it’s hard, but other days can bring big opportunities, like this one for example. I’m a real person that has dealt with Some unpleasant things and it really does only make you stronger.

What makes you choose this profession?

The power! Standing in front of a set, with a camera on you, posing and knowing that you are making something beautiful that other people enjoy too. I hold my hand up, I do love getting the attention in that moment,  having a back and forth with the photographer who is happy that you can portray his vision as well, and wearing some gorgeous clothes I would have never gotten the chance to wear otherwise. Another thing is the amazing people I have met since doing this. I’m a really sociable person and can talk for hours planning new shoots with likeminded people and sharing the passion!

Is art, fashion important in your life? Why?

Oh yes very much so! As I am both an art student and a model, I feel like fashion is also art. It’s a form of self expression and being able to show your individuality and just playing around. Let’s be honest, we aren’t always in makeup and nice clothes, I love my joggers for lounging! But when I do dress up, I love to be overdressed and make myself feel good, and I always have to put some jewellery on for the finishing touch.

If you have a superpower or talent, which one do you wish to have? Why?

Honestly, unlimited confidence. We all don’t just have confidence all day. We have to build ourselves up every day to be confident. I need to talk myself up at the start of the day, cause no matter how good compliments are from everyone else, you have to believe yourself that you are who you are, and just like a lot of other people, I am still working on unlocking my full potential.

Do you have any problems with your profession? How did you solve it?

Comparing myself to the other “typical “ model, size 6, tall and with perfect skin. But once I realised my self worth and That what we are so insecure with, others do find beauty in, I just stopped caring and just did what I love.

Even though it has gotten better with time, there is still a lot of room for improvement with representation. I stopped editing myself, started being real on my social media and letting people know my struggles with mental health, self care and feeling good about myself. I started getting messages saying I inspire them and I’m a role model, so that proves to me I’m on the right way.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I love Pinterest for Inspiration, same as google and Instagram. I love mixing a few ideas together to form one new one and just give it a little bit of spice. I’m inspired by music and lyrics and trying to make them come alive and what they make me feel, and personally love a splash of colour. I always push myself to make something different than before.
