GOGYO

Tradition / Change / Growth

“ Directed by OZI “  is the name of a production team based in Tokyo, and teammates often hide their official names or give them nicknames to join. The reason is that newcomers and celebrities are mixed and each person has to think about their work.

They give top priority to making works from a free position.

However, this time it is a work with a slightly different tendency than usual.

Fashion designer Mukai is a disciple of Kansai Yamamoto, and this work "GOGYO" has a special feeling.

Gogyo, a natural philosophy, is the theory that everything is composed of five types of elements: wood, fire, earth, gold, and water. Although it is derived from China, it has a slightly different form of natural philosophy in Japan.

Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream.

As I get older, I feel a change in my values. Recently, while hoping for a peaceful lifestyle, I also want to take on new challenges.

What makes you choose this profession?

It's simply because I was fascinated.

Could you share how you expand your vision of art, fashion?

I feel that the environment is becoming very difficult due to the improvement of technology such as equipment. That is why I think that the delicate part of the expression is becoming more important.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

Information sent by famous magazines and information easily sent on Instagram. I enjoy the difference I feel when comparing it.

Is art, fashion important in your life? Why?

To be honest, we don't know what art is. However, there is no doubt that I like it strangely.

Do you have any problems with your profession? How did you solve it?

Advances in equipment and other technologies have made it difficult to distinguish between professionals such as photography and amateurs.

I'm doing my best to appeal as a professional.

Who do people impact most in your profession? What do you learn from them?

I think we've been very much influenced by the big names of the 1940s and 1950s. There is a lot to learn, but the first thing I feel is to feel a strong will in everything.

In modern society, lots of people want to be famous, influential. What do you think about it?

I think it's natural to want to influence many people. For the time being, I want to be able to have a positive impact on people around me.

What will be the suggestions to new photographers?

Make your work carefully without relying on the technology of the equipment.

What is the most important thing for creating new work?

I think it is important to have a balance of including our proposals while keeping in mind the client's intentions.

Do you have that feeling? When you have a look at the work you created 1 or 2 years ago, you still think it is in fashion.

I often look back on old works, but strangely I don't feel old. I don't feel new.

It may be because it is a work that is not conscious of fashion.
