Ariela Bruno is a passionate traveler who explores diverse cultures and stunning landscapes around the world, from Iceland’s beauty to Italy’s rich history. Her adventures reflect her vibrant curiosity and love for new experiences
Ariela, you are an avid traveler. You have been to Spain, the Maldives, the UAE, the Netherlands, Belgium, Iceland, Turkey, Greece. The list of countries you have not yet visited is probably small. What is the next destination on your dream list?
Right now, my next dream destination is the Asian continent—Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. I’ve come across so many inspiring posts on travel and experience networks, and I’m eager to see it all in person. I’m excited to immerse myself in cultures that are completely different from my own. It would be such an adventure!
Which of the places you’ve visited impressed you the most and why? And which national dishes have stood out to you?
It’s hard to pick just one place, but I’d say Iceland truly captivated me. It feels like another world, almost like stepping into a fairy tale. From the fascinating urban legends and Viking history to immersing myself in icy waters, witnessing geysers, riding snowmobiles across volcanoes, and walking along black sand beaches—every experience there was extraordinary. It’s the perfect destination for those who want to explore something truly unique.
When it comes to food, I tend to stick to the basics and play it safe. I’m not very adventurous with regional dishes, but the most exotic thing I’ve tried so far was gold-plated meat at chef Salt Bae’s Nusret-Et restaurant in Turkey. It was absolutely delicious!
What tips do you have for beginners looking to travel comfortably? Do you have any strategies for organizing your trip? Are there any personal rituals or items you always take with you to feel at home? And how do you cope with long flights and jet lag?
I think organization and planning are key. I always make a checklist and tick things off as I go. It helps to think ahead about what you’ll need—comfortable travel clothes, your documents, medications, and phone accessories. For long flights, I download entertainment, like Netflix shows, movies, playlists, and podcasts. Good headphones and music—whether it’s for relaxation or your favorite tunes—are essential for when you’re getting close to your destination. I also always carry one of my stuffed animals with me; it’s a personal habit that makes me feel comforted.
As for jet lag, it’s inevitable, but I try to sleep on the plane as much as possible. When I arrive, I stay active and exercise daily to help reset my body’s clock.
Is there a place you return to often? What draws you back? And if you could choose one place to live out of all the places you’ve visited, where would it be and why?
Italy is the country I’ve returned to the most in recent years. I think my paternal Italian grandparents had a big influence on that. They would have been happy to know I’ve had the chance to experience it. The iconic cities, the art, the landscapes, the beaches—all of it is so enchanting. While I love visiting new places, I’m never opposed to returning to Italy.
If I had to choose a place to live, it would be Madrid. The quality of life there is incredible—its culture, architecture, social life, and variety of food make it so appealing. I really enjoy it. Spending time in the Salamanca neighborhood with a good drink and some Iberian ham sounds like the perfect way to enjoy the city.
