Tell us something about you. Maybe your life, profession, habit, dream.
Tushiya would have never thought that after four years of attending the Manhattan Vintage Show, she would have the honor of hosting it in 2021. Ever since she laid her eyes on a Lanvin dress from boutique owner Swaneegrace, she has been a loyal customer to the show.
Growing up in New York City and wearing vintage clothing was not always popular as a teenager attending Fashion Industries High School. Though her peers and other students may not have understood her style they respected it. There was only one girl they knew could pull it off. She was a proud sustainable shopper and very frugal, even till this day.
What makes you choose this profession?
This profession chose her. As a New Yorker, she was fortunate enough to have parents that opened doors of opportunities. Whether it was in education, after school programs, dance recitals or saxophone lessons. Her parents were determined to find her spark and what she was most passionate about.
Could you share how you expand your vision of art, fashion?
Going out into an unfamiliar area and not feeling in control. What she enjoys most is the unknown, allowing herself to be a student and letting her eyes lead her and heart guide her. She trusts her intuition and finds beauty in all art forms.
In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?
There are a handful of artist resources out there. These are a few that she would use to improve her work, get feedback, feel inspired and to help her grow; Pinterest, YouTube, Virtual Workshops, Online Courses and Reading.Fashion is the purest form of expression without having to utter a word. Its value is in the personal connections that are shared, remarkably like music and language.
Talking about fashion is like creating an icebreaker in a conversation with a stranger. There is a story attached to a memory with every garment that she’s ever worn.
Is art, fashion important in your life? Why?

If you have a superpower or talent, which one do you wish to have? Why?
If she were blessed with a superpower, it would involve any man or woman that she encounters that could never lie to her. Honesty and loyalty are a part of who she is and accepts nothing less.
Do you have any problems with your profession? How did you solve it?
Never a problem, but a challenge for her to grow with in her career. There are times where she was at a standstill. She would seek help or guidance from a mentor.
Who do people impact most in your profession? What do you learn from them?
Anyone who is involved in the production, photoshoot, or film can make an impact. Each person brings their creativity and skills. From the photographer, art director, stylist, makeup artist, digital tech, model, and assistants. They each have a part to play.
Patience and time management are valuable things to take away from each experience.
What do you think about your work? Is it what you like, or simply saying a dream?
She wakes up every day eager to go to work because she genuinely loves it. Not many people can say that they have worked full time during a pandemic.
Do you have that feeling? When you have a look at the work you created 1 or 2 years ago, you still think it is in fashion.
When they look back on the incredible work from previous years it shows how much she has grown.
