Christy Kour

DETERMINED, CREATIVE, OPTIMISTIC

A 22 year old portrait and fashion photographer based in Athens, Greece.

Her passion for photography started from the age of 15, when she first started using her father’s old camera. She experimented with self portraits, then with family portraits, friends, and eventually she made her way up to professional models. Her thirst for creativity derives from the need to express her inner world. For the future, Christy aspires to be more involved in the editorial and advertising business, while travelling to the cities of fashion.

What makes you choose this profession?

Photography is my dream, I just can’t live without it. It’s my own personal tool that I use to incarnate my vision and make an impact to the world. Merging into this business was bound to happen. I was studying Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics when I figured out it wasn’t for me, and decided to switch career paths. Being a photographer is a challenge on many levels, and since I love challenging myself, I get to be a better creative and professional.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Uniqueness. People who aren’t afraid to be themselves and fight for what they believe in. Speaking from experience, it’s easy to lose track of your own identity. It takes courage to stand up to social constructs. However, it isn’t impossible. I really want to work with brands that promote sustainability and equality in order to help achieve a better future for fashion and the environment.

What is the most important thing for creating new work?

I always strive for a new shoot to be better than the previous one. I don’t want to waste time being mediocre, therefore I push myself to the max and attempt to reach my standards. Trying new things in each shoot definitely sets the bar high and it’s what makes me better in terms of quality and attention to detail.

In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?

Online seminars are a big part of my everyday routine, since I’m self-taught. Lara Jade and Lindsay Adler are great teachers and a big inspiration to me. Besides seminars, I like to look at fashion magazines such as Vogue, i-D and Self Service, as well as online publications.

What will be the suggestions to new photographers?

I’m not going to be an exception to what every photographer says, so my advice is shoot, shoot and shoot! Gear is the last thing you should consider. Build your vision, your taste and I promise you’ll improve. I still see people not shooting because they don’t own a camera. Don’t let that stop you.
